The knife holder is made of elm or ash. To obtain a uniform and permanent black color, I use the ancient Japanese yakisugi technology - to increase the durability of the wood, wood is burned, which results in a charred protective layer on the surface of the wood. The knife holders are made of a single wooden disc or plank (i.e., no glued wood is used). The knife holder may be engraved with the trademark "C12wood".
On the back side, there are neodymium magnets embedded in the knife holders, which are in turn covered with a wooden cap. On the back side of the knife holders there are strips of double-sided tape, which makes it easy to attach the knife holders to a wall or other surface - remove the protective film from the tape, press the knife holder firmly against the surface to be attached, hold the pressure for 10 seconds.
For finishing, I use cutting board oil specially designed for finishing cutting boards, etc., which consists of natural oils and waxes and is safe when in contact with food. As a result of oiling, the knife holder creates a permanent waterproof surface coating.
The knife holder does not require additional oiling or any other maintenance during long-term use. The knife holder can be cleaned with a damp cloth or washed by hand under running water, washing in the dishwasher may damage the product. The knife holder is not fireproof.
Each knife holder is handmade from natural materials and is therefore unique, which is why it may differ from the product image, including the shape (some are more oval, some are more round) and dimensions. The knife holders have cracks/splitting, and the edge may also be uneven. These are not defects - cracks/splitting are natural when burning wood, and in addition, the wood burns unevenly.
